Introducing Bryn Young: DCS Welcomes Our First-Ever Fully Remote Public Policy Intern!

Bryn Young, DCS Public Policy Intern

Bryn Young,
DCS Public Policy Intern

Past DCS interns would probably be the first to tell you that it’s a work experience unlike any other. After all, not many internships feature bosses with such...um… “eclectic” work attire.

That said, no other DCS intern has had to face a situation like the one we’re currently in. Our Denny Civic Solutions team continues to work fully remotely as the COVID-19 pandemic drags on, meaning that our new public policy intern not only had to be hired remotely, but also had to get up and running without ever actually meeting her coworkers in person!

Luckily, Bryn Young isn’t just up to the task -- as it turns out, she’s just the right person for the job. As a junior political science major at Carlow University, Bryn is no stranger to hard work and busy schedules. That goes for her work life prior to DCS too, since she already had years of experience at La Gourmandine and Estelle Campbell’s Boys and Girls Club in Lawrenceville. Her tireless work ethic, adaptability, and penchant for working in a team are all immediately evident in the few weeks since she started with us.

Even more impressively, Bryn’s dedication extends far beyond work and school to encompass advocacy and activism in our Pittsburgh community and beyond. In her own words:

I believe that adaptation is one of the most difficult skills to learn and master. Growing up as a bi-racial girl, it was always confusing for me to find my place in society - wherever that may be. At just 20 years old, I have come to realize that my place is wherever there is a struggle for human rights. Not knowing where you belong will make you understand that you can adapt and grow with any social climate. Pittsburgh is my home. That is why today and every day after, I will make it a point to learn new things, appreciate diverging perspectives, and create safe spaces where needed.

You can read more about Bryn (including her Top 3 favorite places in “Pix-Burgh”) here, and we hope you’ll join us in welcoming her to the team!
