Steelers Legends Unite for Brain Injury Research

Last week, the DCS team joined the Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research for their inaugural Legends Unite event. Held at the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Hall of Honor, the event featured some VIP guests whose names were very familiar to the line-up under coach Noll: Mel Blount and Rocky Bleier.

Hosted by Dan Rooney, our team and others in attendance enjoyed delicious food, stories from Mel and Rocky, and an opportunity to spend time in the Hall of Honor Museum to get a closer look at the Black & Gold over the years.

Perhaps the most “legendary” part of the evening was the presentation of the first-ever Legends of Excellence Award, which went to National Science Advisory Chairman Dr. Joseph C. Maroon and Dr. Mark Lovell for their development of the ImPACT Test. A transformative tool in diagnosing and managing brain injuries, ImPACT has gone on to test over 25 million athletes at all levels across the globe.

The Chuck Noll Foundation awards grants to innovative, early stage research projects at institutions in Pittsburgh and beyond that are focused on the diagnosis and treatment of sports related head injuries. Learn more about the Foundation here
