Honoring Juneteenth
June 19th marks the day that 250,000 enslaved women, men, and children were freed due to a proclamation of emancipation in Galveston, Texas — over two years after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation and months after Lee’s final surrender in April 1865. Now, 157 years later, Juneteenth celebrates African Americans and their achievements.
Pittsburgh owes its wealth of culture and diversity to our Black community. This Juneteenth, Denny Civic Solutions stands in solidarity with the Black community, and is proud to amplify the voices of Black community leaders and businesses at a local and national level.
