Donor Milk Bill Gathering Momentum

 

Longtime readers know just how much we love working with the Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank. And now, we’re excited to share that the Protect Sick Babies legislation we’re working on with them has cleared the first hurdle on its way to becoming law.

On June 7, SB 1202, also known as Owen’s Law, was voted unanimously out of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee!

The legislation, which would expand insurance coverage granting medically fragile newborns access to lifesaving pasteurized donor human milk, could not come at a better time. Not only do outpatient babies need access to donor milk to help fight off serious medical complications, but more donor milk makes one more major resource available to respond to the nationwide infant formula shortage.
