Spreading Holiday Cheer: An Afternoon with Mid-Atlantic Mother’s Milk Bank
Every client Denny Civic Solutions works with embodies the spirit of giving. And for us working with our caring clients makes every day a holiday. Mid-Atlantic Mother’s Milk Bank (formerly Three Rivers) is one of those clients.
The Milk Bank collects breast milk from donors – generous mothers who provide their own excess milk at no charge. After rigorous screening and pasteurization, MAMMB supplies that milk to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) for use with premature and medically fragile babies. The results speak for themselves: after switching to donor milk from MAMMB, one of Pennsylvania’s largest maternity hospitals reduced its cases of surgical necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) – the most serious form of a highly prevalent gastrointestinal emergency among preterm infants – from 11 to 1 in one year.
All of us at Denny Civic Solutions are honored to be a part of the work that the Mid-Atlantic Milk Bank is doing (you can read more about that here). So in that same spirit of giving, on December 7th our DCS team was thrilled to spend an afternoon volunteering with the Milk Bank at their headquarters in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.
During our time at the milk bank we pulled and packaged milk to fill an order for a local NICU, assisted with labeling donor milk, and aided in the pre-pasteurization process. And thanks to their visionary leadership and rapid success, the Milk Bank is currently adding staff – meaning we came at the perfect time to assist with relocating and installing their new computers.
While there, we were also thrilled to personally deliver a holiday donation from both DCS and our friend Donna Malpezzi of DMMConsulting. We want to extend our sincere thanks to the Milk Bank for hosting us – and we wish all of our clients the happiest of holiday seasons, a wonderful new year, and a safe and successful 2018.
