Protect Sick Babies: Lawmakers Announce Legislation at Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank

At the end of October, the DCS team held a press conference with Representatives Wendi Thomas and Austin Davis, along with House Majority Whip Donna Oberlander, to formally introduce HB2017. The “Protect Sick Babies” legislation would mandate private insurance coverage of medically prescribed Pasteurized Donor Human Milk (PDHM) for inpatient and outpatient infants. Hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank, the announcement focused on donor milk’s role as essential, life-saving treatment for medically at-risk infants that can prevent readmissions, help infants avoid invasive medical interventions, and assist children in achieving growth and developmental targets.

Following the event, Reps Thomas, Davis, and Oberlander joined Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank’s own Denise O’Connor for a tour of the Milk Bank. Check out some photos from the event below, or to see the full press conference click here!
